Draft Day 3! 9/18/19

We might have a problem. I think the people around here are addicted to playing wiffleball. We took a small break from wiffling this past weekend to throw an incredible foam party, and the field wasn’t exactly usable…

The result was wiffle withdrawal. The people were fiending for their fix, so we decided to give them what they wanted with a little Wednesday night Wiffleball draft.

The captains for the draft were, returning captains; Adam and Mav, once again captain; Ben, and newcomer; Jeremy.

It’s looking like the captains are getting a bit better at drafting. All four teams had solid lineups from top to bottom, and there was no definitive favorite. We were definitely in store for some good games.

The Elimination Game

We hopped right back into it with a rematch between Team Ben and Team Mav in the elimination game. Team Mav narrowly eeked out a 2-0 victory in their first meeting, but the win was anything but decisive. The captains may as well have been flipping a coin to retain their title.

With two of the best fielding shortstops captaining each team, another low scoring game was certainly the expectation heading into this one. Any initial lead had the possibility of holding, so getting on the board early could prove to be crucial.

In the first inning Trench ripped a hard single to get on in the two-hole. Jayde then proceeded to snap her slump and come through in the clutch for her team with a triple that scored Trench.

And… the lead held.

Three batters in, the game was decided.

Both teams put on stellar defensive performances. The captains held it down at short. Trench and Sabrina were flying around the outfield. It was truly one of the more entertaining games to watch.

Ben managed to avoid being canceled once again, and we’ll see Mav Maverick’s name in the next draft pool.

The Championship

Once again we see Adam’s team in the championship, but this time against a new face. In his first appearance as a captain, Jeremy managed to put together a rather impressive squad. With three solid guys on offense and defense in himself, Vince, and Dakota, Abby the goat, the much-improved Nina, and solid newcomer Marcy, this was certainly a team capable of taking it all down.

Nina led the game off with a single, and it was looking like they may be able to take an early lead. The next three batters were retired though, and that early optimism was quickly extinguished.

And that was essentially the storyline of the game; optimism extinguished.

The talented squad that was Team Jeremy never quite got anything going throughout the game.

Adam the led game off for his team with a massive homerun, and essentially delivered the dagger.

As someone that always played on Adam’s team, I didn’t realize how f#*cking annoying this must be for everyone else. Can someone please beat him? I might have to come out of retirement.
